Transitioning from Summer to Fall: 5 Skin Care Tips

As summer is coming to an end, your daily routines and schedules are likely to change. However, those changes do not need to impact your skin care regimen. We are tossing our bathing suits and floppy beach hats into the back of the closet and bringing out our sweaters, scarves, and sweats. When we are no longer constantly worrying about having the perfect beach body, we may drop our everyday skin care and beauty routines. After all, when we aren’t showing off our legs, we aren’t shaving them every day (maybe not even weekly). Below are 5 simple and easy tips to keep your skin glowing and radiant through the colder months.

Try a Thicker Moisturizer

Do you ever wake up with dry skin? This means you need to upgrade your bedtime routine. As the weather gets colder, the air dries our skin out even more than usual. The trick is to switch to a thicker, heavier moisturizer. Use this at night to heal dry skin from the day rather than trying to reverse dryness the next day. Use Cleansing Cloths

We all have those days. Those days where we’re so busy that we don’t even have time for that much needed cup of coffee. When you’re constantly on the go, cleansing cloths should become your new go-to. Wipe away the dirt and detox your face with natural cleansing wipes to prevent toxin build up. Does it matter which kind of wipes you use? Yes! Avoid cleansing wipes that are made with harsh ingredients (salicylic acid, retinol, etc.) to avoid over-drying and peeling. Add Vitamin C

There is a common misconception that it would make sense to exfoliate more as your skin gets drier from the colder weather. However, less is more. Exfoliation is an important part of skin care; how often and what you use are just as important, if not more. Apply Sunscreen, Everyday

What most people don’t realize is the cooler temperature makes it harder to feel the ray’s effects on your skin, which is why it’s a must to throw on a layer of sunscreen (even when you can’t see the sun). According to the American Academy of Dermatology, dermatologists recommend using a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30, which blocks 97 percent of the sun's UVB rays [2].
