Transitioning from Summer to Fall: 5 Skin Care Tips

As summer is coming to an end, your daily routines and schedules are likely to change. However, those changes do not need to impact your skin care regimen. We are tossing our bathing suits and floppy beach hats into the back of the closet and bringing out our sweaters, scarves, and sweats. When we are no longer constantly worrying about having the perfect beach body, we may drop our everyday skin care and beauty routines. After all, when we aren’t showing off our legs, we aren’t shaving them every day (maybe not even weekly). Below are 5 simple and easy tips to keep your skin glowing and radiant through the colder months.

Try a Thicker Moisturizer

Do you ever wake up with dry skin? This means you need to upgrade your bedtime routine. As the weather gets colder, the air dries our skin out even more than usual. The trick is to switch to a thicker, heavier moisturizer. Use this at night to heal dry skin from the day rather than trying to reverse dryness the next day. Our Intense Moisturizing Crème is a hydration wonder that will leave your skin feeling radiant and silky-smooth all night long.

Use Cleansing Cloths

We all have those days. Those days where we’re so busy that we don’t even have time for that much needed cup of coffee. When you’re constantly on the go, cleansing cloths should become your new go-to. Wipe away the dirt and detox your face with natural cleansing wipes to prevent toxin build up. Does it matter which kind of wipes you use? Yes! Avoid cleansing wipes that are made with harsh ingredients (salicylic acid, retinol, etc.) to avoid over-drying and peeling. Rather, choose a wipe that is enhanced with simple ingredients like hyaluronic acid or micellar water for a perfect balance.

Add Vitamin C

Vitamin C -- This can't be stressed enough. When transitioning from Summer to Fall, it is natural to get less sun and therefore create a lack of Vitamin C within our bodies. The antioxidant properties of Vitamin C play an important role in skin health; it has anti-aging properties, plays a role in controlling infections and healing wounds, and is a powerful antioxidant that can neutralize harmful free radicals [1]. Our favorite part: it brightens the skin for a more youthful appearance. Add this into your beauty routine with creams, lotions, or even pills!

Exfoliate Lightly

There is a common misconception that it would make sense to exfoliate more as your skin gets drier from the colder weather. However, less is more. As it grows colder, it is important to cut back on robust ingredients like glycolics and retinoids. Exfoliation is an important part of skin care; how often and what you use are just as important, if not more. We suggest using our Whipped Sugar Scrub once a week to help remove impurities and discoloration brought on by the summer sun. It contains 4 simple ingredients: white sugar, coconut oil, broad-spectrum hemp oil, and a combination of natural essential oils for a bright yet calming and stress-relieving effect.

Apply Sunscreen, Everyday

When the sun is hiding behind the clouds, we tend to put sunscreen on the backburner. It is important to note that clouds don’t filter UVA or UVB rays. UVA rays produced by the sun can damage the skin by penetrating the skin’s dermis, breaking down collagen and elastin’s. This can contribute to sunspots, wrinkles, skin damage, and even sagging. What most people don’t realize is the cooler temperature makes it harder to feel the ray’s effects on your skin, which is why it’s a must to throw on a layer of sunscreen (even when you can’t see the sun). According to the American Academy of Dermatology, dermatologists recommend using a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30, which blocks 97 percent of the sun's UVB rays [2].
